FAQ's
The overhead track system boasts a number of benefits over traditional methods of transporting goods, some of these advantages include:
- Higher mobility compared to stationary conveyors; an overhead track system can be moved around as necessary, rather than having fixed locations for it throughout the warehouse
- A bespoke track, so the vehicles can travel in any desired direction, as suited to the needs of the user
- The system tends to be very quiet, so it does not disturb workers or customers
- Suitable for buildings with little floor space, or needing to maximise floor space
Simple electrical controls for safe and easy handling - Can speed up transportation of stock around a building, subsequently reducing the amount of manual labour
How an overhead track system works is dependent on the type of system it utilises. Though conveyor systems will usually be designed bespoke for an operation, they can broadly be categorised by being: a manual or motorised operation, and an open or enclosed track system. Depending on the system, goods can be hung from an overhead track, and transported by movement of the chain upon which they are attached.
Manual overhead conveyor systems need to be operated by hand by a pulley system or chain to push or pull a stock around.
Motorised overhead conveyor systems are powered by a motor, which pulls a chain along the system to transport goods. This is typically a continuous chain, with on and off switches; the pace is moreover manually controlled.
An overhead track system may also be defined by an open or enclosed system; this refers to the track in which the chain moves. An open system relates to a track which exposes the chain, whilst an enclosed track almost completely envelops the chain within.
