Problem

A new client was in need of resourcing their lifting beam rolled section with a better cost effective solution from a UK based supplier.

Solution

Our engineering design team reviewed their current profile, which was a closed welded section, and redeveloped the profile as an open ‘unwelded profile’, thus reducing material content and allowing for the section to be produced locally, reducing the carbon footprint of their finished product and being more cost effective both from a material content, and a reduction in inventory being held at the clients warehouse due to shorter delivery times and smaller rolling batch quantities.

Outcome

An effective re-engineered solution generating a cost saving through design, and reduced inventory from localised supply of smaller delivered rolling batches.

The investment in new tooling was returned in the first year of supply by the above financial benefits, plus the further marketing advantage by establishing a reduced product carbon footprint.
